Lisa Ruping Cheng is a classical pianist living in Canada. As an avid festival and community pianist, since 2015 she has appeared in Calgary Performing Arts Festival, Honens Festival, Aloha International Piano Festival, and Toronto Summer Music Festival, performing classical repertoire including Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Schubert and Satie.

As a composer her debut composition FEBRUATRY FIRST single recording was published in the fall of 2019 as the first part of her complete FEBRUARY FIRST CANADA SUITE album that is expected to be recorded and published in 2020.

Her composition is immensely influenced and inspired by Chopin and Debussy, at the same time her modern works spark with Prokofiev kind of excitement, boldness and humor. Oriental tunes and colors seem to be able to find their way, sneaking in and out of her work regardless styles. Her lastest work is an atonal modern composition - Toccata 2020, very obviously inspired by Prokofiev's Toccata Op. 11, which she greatly admires.

In March 2020, the stay home initiative brought her abundant inspirations. She is now finalizing her most recent piano composition - Black Swan.

Aside from teaching a number of students privately she writes and arranges sheet music for the purpose of learning and education. The titles she has arranged include Mozart's "The Bird Catcher's Song", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", Chinese folk song "Jasmine Flowers" and a number of classic Christmas carols.

She is now working on a new project of composing piano music for elementary learners. The fundamental idea is to write music that carry descriptive themes relevant to the young in the current time. Introducing untraditional tonal harmony is one of the goals in the project.

Lisa holds an ARCT in piano with The Royal Conservatory of Music at Toronton, Canada. She also holds an MBA from Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary.
